Proverbs 2:10-16a-- For if wisdom (soPHIa, Heb: ha^kh:ma^h) shall come into thine understanding (diAnoian, Heb: bh:libekha^), and discernment (AISthe-sis, Heb: v:dha?ath) shall seem pleasing (kalE-, Heb: yin:?a^m) to thy soul, 11 good counsel (boulE- kalE-, Heb: m:zimma^h) shall guard thee, and holy understanding (ENnoia hoSIa, Heb: t:bhuwna^h) shall keep thee; 12 to deliver thee from the evil (kakE-S, Heb: ra^?) way, and from the man that speaks nothing faithfully (pisTON, Heb: tah:pukhowth). 13 Alas for those who forsake right (euTHEIas, Heb: yosher) paths, to walk in ways of darkness; 14 who rejoice in evils (euphraiNOmenoi ePI kakOIS, Heb: hass:me^khiym la?asowth ra^?), and delight in wicked perverseness (CHAIrontes ePI diastrophE- kakE-, Heb: ya^ghiyluw k:thah:pukhowth); 15 whose paths are crooked, and their courses winding; 16 to remove thee far (makrAN) from the straight (euTHEIas) way, and to estrange thee from a righteous (dikAIas) purpose. My son, let not evil counsel (kakE- boulE-) overtake thee (BLXX)
Alt.:--For wisdom cometh into thy heart, And knowledge to thy soul is pleasant, Thoughtfulness doth watch over thee, Understanding doth keep thee, To deliver thee from an evil way, From any speaking froward things, Who are forsaking paths of uprightness, To walk in ways of darkness, Who are rejoicing to do evil, They delight in frowardness of the wicked, Whose paths [are] crooked, Yea, they are perverted in their ways. To deliver thee from the strange woman, From the stranger who hath made smooth her sayings (YLT)
Alt.:--For skillful and godly Wisdom shall enter into your heart, and knowledge shall be pleasant to you. Discretion shall watch over you, understanding shall keep you, To deliver you from the way of evil and the evil men, from men who speak perverse things and are liars, Men who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, Who rejoice to do evil and delight in the perverseness of evil, Who are crooked in their ways, wayward and devious in their paths. [Discretion shall watch over you, understanding shall keep you] to deliver you from the alien woman, from the outsider with her flattering words (AMP)

Isaiah 66:3-4-- He who slaughters an ox is like him who kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, like him who breaks a dog’s neck; he who presents a cereal offering, like him who offers swine’s blood; he who makes a memorial offering of frankincense, like him who blesses an idol. These have chosen their own ways, and their soul (naph:sha^m, LXX: psyCHE-) delights (ha^phe^tsa^h, LXX: e-THELe-sen) in their abominations (uwbh:shiqquwtse^yhem, LXX: bdeLYGmata); 4 I also will choose affliction for them, and bring their fears upon them; because, when I called, no one answered, when I spoke they did not listen; but they did what was evil (ha^RA?, LXX: pone-RON) in my eyes, and chose that in which I did not delight (ha^phats:tiy, LXX: eboulOMen). (RSV)
Alt.:--Your acts of worship are acts of sin: Your sacrificial slaughter of the ox is no different from murdering the neighbor; Your offerings for worship, no different from dumping pig’s blood on the altar; Your presentation of memorial gifts, no different from honoring a no-god idol. You choose self-serving worship, you delight in self-centered worship—disgusting! Well, I choose to expose your nonsense and let you realize your worst fears, Because when I invited you, you ignored me; when I spoke to you, you brushed me off. You did the very things I exposed as evil, you chose what I hate. (Mes)
Alt.:--But those people who kill bulls as a sacrifice to me are like those who kill people. Those who kill sheep as a sacrifice are like those who break the necks of dogs. Those who give me grain [gift; tribute] offerings [Lev. 2:1] are like those who offer me the blood of pigs [dogs and pigs were ritually unclean animals and were forbidden as sacrifices]. Those who burn incense are like those who worship idols [their rituals were no better than pagan worship because their hearts were not right with God]. These people choose their own ways, not mine, and they love [delight in] the terrible things they do [their abominations]. (EXB)

Jeremiah 11:9-16-- And the Lord said to me, "A conspiracy has been found among the men of Judah and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 10 They have turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers who refused to hear My words, and they have gone after other gods to serve them; the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken My covenant which I made with their fathers."
11 Therefore thus says the Lord: "Behold, I will surely bring calamity on them which they will not be able to escape; and though they cry out to Me, I will not listen to them. 12 Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to whom they offer incense, but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble. 13 For according to the number of your cities were your gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem you have set up altars to that shameful thing (Heb.: labosheth), altars to burn incense to Baal.
14 "So do not pray for this people, or lift up a cry or prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry out to Me because of their trouble.
15 What has My beloved (Heb.: liydhiydhiy, LXX: e-gape-MENe-) to do in My house,
Having done lewd deeds (Heb: ham:zimma^tha^h, LXX: BDELygma) with many?
And the holy flesh has passed from you.
When you do evil (Heb.: ra^?a^the^khiy, LXX: kaKIas), then you rejoice (Heb: ta?alo-ziy).
16 The Lord called your name,
Green Olive Tree, Lovely and of Good Fruit.
With the noise of a great tumult
He has kindled fire on it,
And its branches are broken." (NKJV)
Alt.:--You, Judah, have as many gods as you have towns; and the altars you have set up to burn incense to that shameful god Baal are as many as the streets of Jerusalem. ... 'a^he^bh) to tyrannize. 8 And Ephraim said, Nevertheless I am rich, I have found refreshment to myself. 1 Corinthians 6:7-10-- The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged (adiKEISthe)? Why not rather be cheated? (aposteREISthe)? 8 Instead, you yourselves cheat (adiKEIte) and do wrong (aposteREIte), and you do this to your brothers. 9 Do you not know that the wicked (Adikoi) will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. (NIV)
[a] The words "men who have sex with men" translate two Greek words that refer to the passive and active participants in homosexual acts.
Alt.:--The fact that you have lawsuits against each other shows that you are already defeated. Why not let yourselves be wronged [suffer the injustice]? Why not let yourselves be cheated? But you yourselves do wrong [act unjustly] and cheat, and you do this to other believers [brothers]! Surely [Don’t...?] you know that the people who do wrong [unrighteous; wicked; unjust] will not inherit God's kingdom. Do not be fooled [deceived]. Those who sin sexually, worship idols, take part in adultery, those who are male prostitutes [or passive homosexual partners], or men who have sexual relations with other men [or active homosexual partners], those who steal, are greedy, get drunk, lie about others [slander others; use abusive language], or rob [swindle]--these people will not inherit God's kingdom. (EXB)
Alt.:--It is surely obvious that something must be seriously wrong in your Church for you to be having lawsuits at all. Why not let yourself be wronged or cheated? For when you go to law against your brother you yourself do him wrong, for you cheat him of Christian love and forgiveness. Have you forgotten that the kingdom of God will never belong to the wicked? (Phillips)
Alt.:--To have lawsuits at all is a real defeat for you as Christians. Why not just accept mistreatment and leave it at that? It would be far more honoring to the Lord to let yourselves be cheated. But, instead, you yourselves are the ones who do wrong, cheating others, even your own brothers. Don't you know that those doing such things have no share in the Kingdom of God? (LB)
Alt.:--Why, the very fact of your having lawsuits with one another at all is a defect (a defeat, an evidence of positive moral loss for you). Why not rather let yourselves suffer wrong and be deprived of what is your due? Why not rather be cheated (defrauded and robbed)? But [instead it is you] yourselves who wrong and defraud, and that even your own brethren [by so treating them]! Do you not know that the unrighteous and the wrongdoers will not inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God? (AMP)
Alt.:--These court cases are an ugly blot on your community. Wouldn’t it be far better to just take it, to let yourselves be wronged and forget it? All you’re doing is providing fuel for more wrong, more injustice, bringing more hurt to the people of your own spiritual family. (Mes)
Alt.:--Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because you go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? (KJV)
Alt.:--The truth is that these public lawsuits cause all of you to lose and lose big. Wouldn’t it be better to be ripped off or defrauded? (Voice)
Alt.:--Why do you not rather let yourselves be wronged? Why do you not rather let yourselves be defrauded? ... What! Do you not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God's kingdom? (NWT)

2 Corinthians 7:7-10--And not only by his coming but also by the comfort (te- paraKLE-sei) with which he was comforted in you, as he told us of your longing (epiPOthe-sin), your mourning (odyrMON), your zeal (ZE-Lon) for me, so that I rejoiced (chaRE-nai) still more. 8 For even if I made you sorry (eLYpe-sa) with my letter, I do not regret it (though I did regret it), for I see that that letter grieved (eLYpe-sen) you, though only for a while. 9 As it is, I rejoice (CHAIro-), not because you were grieved (elyPE-the-te), but because you were grieved into repenting (elyPE-the-te eis meTAnoian) ; for you felt a godly grief (elyPE-the-te gar kaTA theON), so that you suffered no loss through us. 10 For godly grief (kaTA theON LYpe-) produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly grief (tou KOSmou LYpe-) produces death. (RSV)
Alt.:--He told us how much you longed for me. He told us about your deep sadness and concern for me. That made my joy greater than ever. ... Now I am happy. I’m not happy because you were made sad. I’m happy because your sadness led you to turn away from your sins. ...Godly sadness causes us to turn away from our sins and be saved. (NIRV)
Alt.:--When he told me how much you were looking forward to my visit, and how sorry you were about what had happened, and about your loyalty and warm love for me, well, I overflowed with joy! (LB)
Alt.:--he could tell us of your eagerness to help, your deep sympathy and keen interest on my behalf. All that made me doubly glad to see him. ... now I am glad I sent it, not because I want to hurt you but because it made you grieve for things that were wrong. ... The sorrow which God uses means a change of heart and leads to salvation--it is the world’s sorrow that is such a deadly thing. (Phillips)
Alt.:--and how eagerly you took my part, so that I rejoiced still more. ... Yet I am glad now, not because you were pained, ... For godly grief and the pain God is permitted to direct, produce a repentance that leads and contributes to salvation and deliverance from evil, and it never brings regret; but worldly grief (the hopeless sorrow that is characteristic of the pagan world) is deadly [breeding and ending in death]. (AMP)
Alt.:--your kanous (zeal) for me, so that it caused me to have even more simcha. ... Now I have simcha, not that you had agmat nefesh, but that your grief brought you to teshuva (OJB)
Alt.:--I went from worry to tranquility in no time! ... Now I’m glad--not that you were upset, but that you were jarred into turning things around. You let the distress bring you to God, not drive you from him. ... Distress that drives us to God does that. It turns us around. (Mes)
Alt.:--When I heard this, I was much happier. ... I am happy because your sorrow made you change your hearts. ... Being sorry in the way God wants makes a person change his heart and life. (ICB)
Alt.:--As a result, I was more inclined to celebrate; ... Anyway, I’m celebrating now (NTE)
Alt.:--Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. (NKJV)
Alt.:--I now do rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye were made sorry to reformation, for ye were made sorry toward God (YLT)
Alt.:--but that you were grieved into repentance. For you were grieved in-accordance-with God (DLNT)

2 Thessalonians 2:9-12--The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception (aPAte- adiKIas) among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth (te-n aGApe-n te-s ale-THEIas), that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe (pisTEUsai) the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe (pisTEUsantes) the truth (ale-THEIa) but had pleasure in (eudoKE-santes) unrighteousness (te- adiKIa). (NKJV)
Alt.:--The Anarchist's coming is all Satan’s work. All his power and signs and miracles are fake, evil sleight of hand that plays to the gallery of those who hate the truth that could save them. And since they’re so obsessed with evil, God rubs their noses in it--gives them what they want. Since they refuse to trust truth, they’re banished to their chosen world of lies and illusions. (Mes)
Alt.:--The lawless man is produced by the spirit of evil and armed with all the force, wonders and signs that falsehood can devise. To those involved in this dying world he will come with evil's undiluted power to deceive, for they have refused to love the truth which could have saved them. God sends upon them, therefore, the full force of evil's delusion, so that they put their faith in an utter fraud and meet the inevitable judgment of all who have refused to believe the truth and who have made evil their play-fellow. (Phillips)
Alt.:-- The Man of Evil will use every kind of evil to fool those who are lost. ... They will all be condemned ... because they enjoyed doing evil. (ERV)
Alt.:--And by unlimited seduction to evil and with all wicked deception ... God sends them a misleading influence (AMP)
Alt.:--and every kind of wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. ... God sends them a powerful delusion ... so that all who have not believed the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness will be condemned. (NRSV)
Alt.:--and with all deception of iniquity working in those that perish because they did not receive the charity of the truth ... God shall send the operation of error in them, ... but consented to the iniquity. (JUB)
Alt.:--everyone will be judged who is not convinced by the truth but is happy with injustice. (CEB)
Alt.:--everyone who did not believe the truth, but was delighted with what God disapproves of (GWT)
Alt.:--all of them will be justly judged for believing falsehood, refusing the Truth, and enjoying their sins. (LB)
Alt.:--those who did not believe the truth but enjoyed unrighteousness. (HCSB)
Alt.:--but enjoyed doing [delighted in; approved of] evil [wickedness; unrighteousness; injustice]. (EXB)
